Perthshire’s Peter pips international field to win Staffin Trials

A TALENTED Perthshire sheepdog handler, who is one of Scotland’s in form competitors, has reigned supreme in Staffin.

Peter Martin, from Glenlyon, and his dog Jen beat almost 70 other competitors from all over the UK, Europe and North America last Friday in Ellishadder.

A KEY staff appointment has been made by Staffin Community Trust (SCT) as it prepares to deliver a major heritage project. 

Angus Murray is the new programme manager for the Skye Ecomuseum II.

Angus, who previously worked for Museum and Tasglann nan Eilean in the Western Isles, will manage a wide-ranging activities programme for the project. Green-fingered Staffin pupils dig in for national recognition

A GARDEN designed and created by Staffin schoolchildren has beaten off competition from all over Scotland to receive a national award.

The efforts of P4-7 pupils in creating a “pallet garden” has won the respect of judges at Scotland’s premier gardening event. It was a real achievement for Stafffin Primary School to have even made the shortlist as the pupils were up against hundreds of other schools.

Community council and school organise Staffin clean-up

STAFFIN Community Council and Staffin Primary School have teamed up to organise a clean up operation. The joint venture will see community councillors, school pupils and parents launch the ‘Keep Staffin Stunning’ campaign later this month.

Photograph of Beinn Edra plane crash pilot published

MORE than 72 years after a plane crash in Staffin which killed nine airmen, a photograph of the pilot has emerged.

The name of Lt. Paul M. Overfield, Jr was added to the Staffin War Memorial in 2015 along with those of his stricken US air force colleagues who died in the crash at Beinn Edra, the highest point on the Trotternish Ridge.

Hefted hill sheep reported missing from Trotternish grazings

SKYE police are investigating the alleged theft of more than 30 sheep from graziings near the Trotternish Ridge. 

Alarmed stockmen in the Linicro Sheep Stock Club had noticed in the past five to six weeks that some of their livestock were missing. They had hoped the sheep would reappear but subsequently reported their loss to Police Scotland at the end of last week.
