Next Staffin Community council meeting: 11.5.17

THE new Staffin Community Council meets for the second time next week after it was re-established earlier this year.

The community council will meet on Thursday, May 11 at 7pm in Staffin Primary School. A representative from Police Scotland will be in attendance, generally to discuss police matters but specifically in relation to dog fouling and littering. The members are Jen Shanks, Ann Marie Ferguson, Mairi MacDonald, Barbara Whitehead, Isobel MacDonald and Chisholm Campbell.

First day of new exhibition illustrating Glenview’s past kicks off

A MONTH-long exhibition about the Glenview Inn – and its surroundings, the local people and its rich history – starts today (1.5.17).

Called “Imprints of Time”, the event, which is free, is presented by Kirsty Faulds, of the inn in Culnacnoc, along with Caroline Dear and Alison McLaggan.

BBC Alba and STV have broadcast reports on Staffin’s challenging housing situation, as plans for six urgently needed affordable homes come under Highland Council scrutiny.

Formal bid for Storr site lodged by Staffin Community Trust

STAFFIN Community Trust (SCT) has formally submitted a bid to purchase local authority-owned land at the Old Man of Storr. 

SCT has lodged an Asset Transfer Request (ATR) to Highland Council for a section of roadside ground near the popular island landmark so it can construct a new car park, public toilets and interpretation. It comes after several years of talks between SCT and the council, a major community consultation and the conclusion of a site options appraisal/business plan by a consultant team.

The Co-Chomunn Stafainn story from 35 years ago

AN OLD newsletter first printed in the early 1980s during the construction of Staffin Hall – the Co-Chomunn – has provided a snapshot of the community’s efforts into delivering the ambitious project.  ‘Mac-Talla’ was printed just before Christmas in 1982 to update Staffin residents about progress of the district’s new village hall, which included a shop, restaurant, crafts outlet and toilets.
